« on: Friday 01 April 11 10:55 BST (UK) »
Hello
This puzzle is a bit confusing so will try and simplify things.

Would appreciate a look up for Elmer/Thompson

1.  Bertha Laura Thompson married Alfred Thompson SA 1917-1920

2. At some time Bertha Laura Thompson married Francis Laurel Elmer date unknown

3  When Bertha Laura Elmer died in 1973 she was buried with  her ex husband Alfred Thompson at Two Wells SA

4 So trying to find out what date she married Francis Elmer

Regards
Kate

Hi Kate,

Unless you are a party of the marriage or a child of the couple I don't think you will be able to get a certificate at  this stage. Apart from that perhaps a newspaper announcement.

http://www.ocba.sa.gov.au/bdm/faqs.html

I note you were informed on another thread that there were no Elmers in Two Wells in 1939-1943. I agree , there are no Elmers in the surviving districts during these years. I note Francis was involved in Trotting around Adelaide at  that time. Perhaps he was registered in the Adelaide District. (either that or  he did not enroll to vote in SA) The Adelaide district rolls have not survived. I can try to search Two Wells in later years when I am next at the library if you like, but it will not be next week. I will need to know where and when to look. It will not possible to search the State as these rolls are in many large books for districts (subdistricts) and years and they need to be searched separately. There is no indexing.

Cheers Kris  :)

Hi  Kate,

With the absence of ELMERS in the electoral rolls for those years and the mentions at Wayville etc re racing, I wondered if he may not have been living in Two Wells full time and not on the Roll there so possibly registered in Adelaide (if at all).  He could have been racing there but not actually living there at that time. I will look through some later rolls for two wells mid 40s to mid 50s and see if or when he appears, when I can get to the library.

Cheers Kris  :)

Hi Kate,

He was not on the Electoral Roll in Two Wells 1939-1941. By the newspaper entries I have seen I would suggest this is because he was not living in two Wells during 1939-1943, he was probably residing in the Adelaide district (records have not survived) Please show me any entries you have seen for this man living in Two Wells between 1939 and 1943. I have found him racing trotters all around SA and in Vic during this period but not a single ref to him living in Two Wells.

I suspect he moved to Two Wells some time over the next few years. The refs I found for him in Two Wells were all after 1943. I have offered to check these later Two Wells rolls when at the library if you wish.

Cheers Kris  :)
