In the Scottish Covenantors Index it said - Reid, Alexander Younger.

Does anyone know it this means his fathers name was Alexander?

It will mean that. I have once, in my own family, come across an uncle and nephew distinguished as elder and younger in the 1520s, but that is extremely rare.
