Brick wall in Warlingham Surrey
« on: Thursday 31 March 11 17:21 BST (UK) »
Does SKS have access to old parish records for Warlingham in Surrey?  Ancestry UK has some, but the years I am interested in are missing. My GGG Grandfather was John Smith. Baptised in January 1788, he had 9 siblings and all were born in Warlingham.   Their parents were Thomas Smith & Sarah (?)

Thomas was, I believe, born in 1761 in Warlingham & Sarah in 1765, place unknown.  They were married possibly in 1785 again in Warlingham.   However, this information was gleaned from "other" sources and cannot be verified.

If anyone can confirm these details for me, I would be most grateful.  Smith is not the easiest name to research.

Thanks in advance,

Geoff.

Hi

Warlingham parish registers seem to be covered by the IGI

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountySurrey.htm#W

West Surrey Family History Society have also produced a microfiche for Warlingham registers (libraries have microfiche readers)

Familysearch.org has this marriage.....

Thomas Smith to Sarah Sparks on 30th April 1774 at Coulsdon, Surrey. Coulsdon is just across the A22 from Warlingham and about 2 miles away...

Any possibility?

Checking through transcripts of the Warlingham Registers I can find no reference of Thomas being baptised at Warlingham. No marriage found between Thomas and Sarah at Warlingham.

The only reference to a marriage was on Jan.7,1811.Thomas Smith to Sarah Harding.

Hi

John Smith (1787), son of Thomas Smith and Sarah is also my GGG-grandfather!

Did you get any further towards finding their marriage. Would be interested to hear from you.
Heather
