tuttle stHello
« on: Wednesday 30 March 11 20:23 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am trying to track down an old photo of tuttle street in wrexham. I know from an earlier visit to Wrexham that the street no longer is there. But I was hoping some kind person may have an
old photo of the street. My dad was brought up at number 17,next to the railway bridge.
Thanking anybody who may be able to help me.

This is the Nags Head on Mount St, Tuttle Street is the one at the side of the pub.

This is the Old Brewery building apposite the pub. I can`t find any more . Tuttle Street was an ordinary place, the only building of any note   I can recall was the Swimming Baths.  :)

Hi Mike,
Thanking you very much for your offer of a scan of the swimming baths that ,would be great.
I was,nt  aware of the baths in tuttle street, until wilcoxon informed me of its existence. Plus a brewery on the street.
                     Cheers for your help.
                                 markeve. :)

Hi.  I found the photo and am attaching it.  I had a photo of the inside of the baths as well but it is not good enough to send to you.  The brewery (Border Brewery) was at the back of the baths.

I forgot to say that the water in the baths was very cold.  There were two pools, male and female and I was told that the female pool was warmer but I wouldn't know if that was true.  I experienced the coldness of the male pool and maybe that was the reason I did not learn to swim.  Many years later, I had contact with Border brewery through my job.  It was a real old fashioned brewery and the aroma when they were brewing was wonderful.

Hi Mike,
It makes me wonder with the baths begin on the same street has my dad lived ,whether he would have made use of the baths.
Quite a big building, if there were houses across from it,they would be in shade most of the day I should think.
Thanks for the scan of baths Mike, most appreciated, I will get it copied off and with the scan of the Nags Head and the old brewery from Wilcoxon,I am slowly putting Tuttle street back together again.
               Regards markeve.

There's a good aerial photo from 1960 and a couple of photo's of Tuttle street and the surrounding streets  in a book called "Old Wrexham, a collection of pictures, volume 5 " written by W. Alister Williams. I managed to get a copy off Amazon as it's been out of print for some time, not sure how I stand on the copying of the picture otherwise I'd scan it for you.
W. Alister Williams did five books of old photo's of Wrexham and they're actually quite good, but because they're out of print the prices can vary for each issue, hope this helps.
