Anyone going to the record office?
« on: Sunday 27 March 11 20:29 BST (UK) »
If somebody is planning a trip to the record office I wonder if they could look up 2 marriage for me.

They both occured in Dec quarter 1883

1) In Upper Tean, Christchurch - William Pyatt and Emma Shenton
2) In Cheadle St Giles - William Pyatt and Prudence Ellen Smytheman

Would like to know occupations, addresses, fathers names and occupations and witnesses if possible.

Hoping someone can help

Regards

Managed to get a fiche reader today, so:

St Giles, Cheadle (F3611/1/5)
31 December 1883 - by Banns
Wiliam Pyatt, 22, bachelor, Labourer of High Street.  Father:  William Pyatt, Fruiterer.
Prudence Ellen Smytheman, 21, spinster, Domestic Servant of Upper Tean.  Father:  Joseph Smytheman, Labourer.
Witnesses:  Joseph Smytheman and Eleanor Annie Pyatt.

Christ Church, Upper Tean (F5158/1/2)
22 December 1883 - by Banns
William Pyatt, 20, bachelor, Labourer of Cheadle.  Father:  Simon Pyatt, Greengrocer
Emma Shenton, 26, spinster, Winder of Upper Tean.  Father: Isaac Shenton, Weaver
Witnesses:  William Pyatt and Mary Shenton.

The signature of William the witness and William the groom (Cheadle) are similar, but I don't think it's the same person.

1872 Post Office Directory of Staffordshire - Cheadle - no sign of any Pyatt.

1880 Kelly's Directory of Staffordshire - Cheadle:
John Pyatt, coal carter, Black Lane
Joseph Pyatt, fishmonger and fruiterer, Cross Street
Simon Pyatt, greengrocer etc, Monkhouse
William Pyatt, game dealer and fruiterer, High Street
William Pyatt, tailor, High Street

1896 Kelly's Directory of Staffordshire - Cheadle - shows Simon and William (the tailor) at the same addresses as 1880.  No other Pyatt entries.

Thank you very much. I'll claim the son of Simon Pyatt.
Tho i reckon the other one may fit in somewhere because the family seem to all be some form of fruiterer or greengrocer.

I think I might agree, they are all in the same sort of business and probably related..  I did take some advice on the two signatures for William Pyatt, but considering they were some 9 days apart, there isn't much room for change  ;D

Hello,

I wonder if anyone could do me a look up in Staffordshire. ?

Though Warwickshire was where most of my ancestors are or  later lived in the early/mid censuses! Thomas Tidmarsh bapt  about 1763 to 1780 married in Merrevale 1803 to Pheobe Cope and had a son Thomas Tidmarsh (Tidmash) bapt 1806 in Atherstone by census info and IGI!, both Thomas's later lived in Balsall Warwickshire. It was said that Tidmarsh's had relo's in Leek area but that maybe a 'Salt' surname through marriage. Though there are possible parents for Thomas Tidmarsh b 1763-80 in Warwickshire!, Staffordshire North of Atherstone or even West/ North Birmingham could be a possible. Any transcription look up would be gratefully appreciated.

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

Is this sweet revenge, Dave  ;) ;D

I can certainly send you details of the Salt families I have so far looked at, they may be of interest to you, but I don't think they cover as far as Leek area.
