The Gray Family
« on: Sunday 27 March 11 16:54 BST (UK) »
I posted this for Argyll as I'm trying to locate my father's side of my ancestors and all I have is tht he was born on the West of Scotland. I thought it was Argyll but it may have been in the Alexandria area where he was born. His name was Robert Mitchell Gray, born on 25th Jan, 1921 and died in Dunfemline in 1996. His father's name was also Robert Mitchell Gray and his Mother's name was Annie McGregor Gray (Nee Brown). Has anyone any information on him coming from this area.

Hi Ernie

Just adding the link to the previous post www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,522188.0.html

There one birth showing for a Robert Gray in Old Kirkpatrick in 1925. No middle name included though which makes it harder to know if this may be the right one.

As mentioned in the last post, there are no Robert Mitchell Gr*y births showing anywhere in Scotland with a birth year of 1925. It may be that his birth was registered without his middle name.

On the other post, Ev found a possible death for your father in 1996 in Dunfermline with a birth year of c. 1922. There are 3 births showing in Scotland between 1922-24 with the middle name of Mitchell.

Have you considered getting your parents' marriage cert to see what details it contains?

Monica  :)

Hi Monica,  :)

Thanks for your reply. It looks like I need to go and obtain a copy of his birth certificate as he was married down in Wellington, Shropshire in 1944. My mother has got dementia and it is proving very difficult to find it in her house. I may have the year wrong to when he was born. Could you possible furnish me with the the 3 births you hve found between 1922-24 giving the middle name of Mitchell please? I knew it was going to be difficult in trying to locate anything on my father's side but I'll perservere just the same.

Hi Ernie

Sorry to hear about the situation - it's hard for you and family  :-\

I haven't looked at the search results on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/search/birth/index.aspx to see where these 3 births are located. To be honest though, regardless of where they were located (and from searches it wasn't Argyll or Dunbartonshire) it will be hard for you to know which of the three, if any, could be your father's birth entry. It may also be that his birth registration didn't include a middle name (and there 78 birth entries for a Robert Gray between 1922-25).

You haven't mentioned your grandfather's name. Do you know what this is to be able to search for a marriage for your grandparents?

25th Jan, 1921 and died in Dunfemline in 1996.

Sorry Ernie, just seen you have changed your father's birth year from 1925 to 1921. I was still working on that year of c. 1925.

Added: There are no Robert Mitchell Gray births showing for 1921. 26 births that year for a Robert Gray, none in Argyll or Dunbartonshire.

Hi Monica,

I'm going to get a copy of his birth certificate as it is like looking for a needle in the haystack otherwise. I'm not too certain of his year of birth now. Thanks for your help and time.
