I was thinking of the witness at the wedding!     But on reading again perhaps you meant Alfred's sister? 

Changing the order of names can be very confusing but do you think the Lewisham marriage is correct?  What do you have that is confirmed?  What variations of Shephard have you tried on the CRs?

Any information to save covering the same ground.

The sister that was a witness at the wedding at St.Pancras was Alfred's.

Not sure where Lewisham comes into it.

I have tried all different ways to spell Shephard.

What has stumped me is that I have been unable to find Emily on the 1891 and 1901 census, this has been made more difficult by not finding her Birth on Free BMD.

This post came up when I was searching for members of my family who married in St. Luke's Church in 1866. This groom was also living at 19, Barclay Street at the time of the marriage. Like you, this search has caused me lots of problems. The groom's father is incorrectly named. The groom was baptised twice and had his middle name changed. The bride, who was illegitimate, made up the name and profession of her father, and took 2 years off her age. I can't find either of them in the 1861 census.

About a year ago, I found on Family Search a distant relative had Emily Shephard, down as Emily Catherine Shepherd, born 1885, so i purchased the Birth certificate for Emily Catherine Shepherd, she was born on the 24/2/1885 at 11 Outram street Islington, her father's name was John her mothers name was  Catherine formely Stevens.

I followed this on and found that Emily Catherine Shepherd (father's name John) married Charles Frederick Stroud at St Lukes Deptford on the 1/2/1908.

So this was not the Emily Shephard I was looking for.
