Sadly, I have no further information on the girls' Irish life and I am not aware of any other family members coming to Australia for more hints.  The girls all gave their religion as Roman Catholic on the shipping records and all were buried in Catholic cemeteries.  However, I think online RC records in Clones start well after they left.

Thanks for the link.  There are marriages back to 1821 and I had a quick look at the early years.  However, I feel Arthur and Margaret Hughes were married before that.  There are large inconsistencies between the ages of the girls both within the shipping records and birth years based on death certs.  However, it looks like the eldest is likely to have been born a bit after 1815.

As he had his three sons baptised (mother was Janet Rae,Dumfries,he never married her) as Roman Catholic I assume he was as Janet didn't appear to be. Thank you for replying
