Please help restore g.grandad's photo
« on: Saturday 26 March 11 12:37 GMT (UK) »
I've come across a photo of my g.grandad. Not sure of the date. Was taken from a glass photo plate which has now disappeared. I'd really appreciate a restoration. Also I'd love to learn how to do restorations so I can return the favour to others. How would I start? Is there anyone who would mentor me?
Many thanks. x

Hi lollthetroll and welcome to rootschat!

One of the easiest ways to get started on restorations is to download a couple of the free programmes available on the internet, such as GIMP, and PaintNet. There are tutorials available on the resources guide at the top of the photo restoration forum, or on Youtube, to help if you need them. Then it's a case of picking photos and having a play with all the tools. The beauty of it is that, even if things go wrong, you've still got your original photo.

These are the links to the programmes I mentioned  -- Have fun!!

Good for you!

One thing you will notice Pam, is how most of the restorers, and I'm no exception, don't work on their own pics!!! Strange!

Hi Pam amd welcome to Rootschat...Good advice there from Tony...He forgot to mention though that it is very addictive..and...your ironing will pile up like never before...the dust will gather..and....you won't want to answer the phone if you're in the middle of a repair...you've been warned  :P ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thank you so much for the restore, Irene. I'm well impressed! And thank you for the kind words of encouragement from everyone else. I can see I'm going to have no free time!
