WASLEY around Gwennap
« on: Friday 25 March 11 23:07 GMT (UK) »
Henry WASLEY was baptized in Gwennap on 8 Jan 1725. Sometime around 1749 he married Mary XXXXX. They went on to have at least 9 children, starting in 1750, all of whom were baptized in Gwennap.
Does anyone know where, when and to whom he was married please?

hi

have you searched on here?

http://www.uk-genealogy.org.uk/Registers/

a browse through here http://www.gwennap-opc.com/marriage_1740.htm

shows two wasleys being married in gwennap around that time but no henry so presumably he married elsewhere and so might be on the first link.

hope this is of some use.

Paul,

Thanks for the UK Genealogy site. It's new to me and could prove useful.

The only neighbouring parish to Gwennap they have at present is Redruth, but no WASLEY marriages there in the period in which I am interested.

Like you, I'd found the family marriages in Gwennap. These included some of Henry's siblings, but no trace of him. I guess that it couldn't have been too far away, or he wouldn't have returned for the baptisms of all his children. I'll just have to keep looking.

Thanks again

George

ive scanned through all the marriage records for cornwall on the genealogy site and i cannot find the gent your looking for. either the information is incomplete or he left cornwall to get married which seems very unlikely. i am also looking for people in gwennap but they are 100 years after yours.

Paul,

The baptism of Thomas WASLEY in Gwennap on 3 Jan 1762 states that his parents are Henry and Mary. The same applies to their other 8 children.
Maybe Henry and Mary weren't married; if not, then they were very faithful to each other! There is no mention of 'base born' or other similar description, so I can only assume that they were indeed married.
Thanks for searching the records. As you say, they must be incomplete in some way

The nearest I can get datewise to your Eliza in 1819 is Thomas WASLEY, who married around that time and had at least 2 children, Mary in 1820 and Susan in 1823, both baptized in Oreston, Plymstock. I've not been able to find his marriage or any earlier children. He was born in 1795 in Kenwyn, so could have married c1816 and been the father of Eliza, but it's a long shot.
