Antrim: William Gaston & Mary Olivet (Lemmon) Gaston
« on: Wednesday 23 March 11 21:27 GMT (UK) »
Looking for information about William Gaston and Mary Olivet (Lemmon) Gaston; my 7th great grandparents.

They were the parents of Reverend Hugh Gaston (1706-1766) – 4th minister of Ballywillan Presbyterian Church in Portrush, Co. Antrim, Ireland.  William & Mary had eight children: Alexander (1702 – 1781), Rev. Hugh (1702 – 1766), John (1703 – 1782), Mary (1712 – 1802), Robert (1720 – 1787), Elizabeth Ann (1727 – 1813), Martha (1741 – 1826) and Matthew (1748 – 1799)-- all children eventually emigrating to America.

The following is what I think are true facts about William & Mary Gaston:

William Gaston
Born: 1685 in Cloughwater, Antrim, Ireland
Died: 1770 in Cloughwater, Antrim, Ireland

William Gaston was the son of:
John Gaston (Duke of Navarre) married Ester Naugh - born ?????
Birth 1645 in Melrose, Roxburghshire, Scotland
Death 1707 in Ballymena, Antrim, Ireland

William John Gaston (1645-1707) was one of three brothers who settled in Ballymena, County Antrim, Ireland. The other two brothers were William Gaston, born in 1642, and Alexander Gaston, born about 1648.

Mary Olivet Lemmon
Born: 1688 in  Kilconway(?), Ireland
Died: 1752 in Cloughwater, Antrim, Ireland

Any further information about the children including possible baptism & marriage records and where William & Mary Olivet are buried; would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, George Gaston

To gmg706
My ancestor is Margaret Ann Gaston, child of William Gaston (8th generation) and Mary Olivet Lemon.
Children of Revolutionary Ancestor by Max Perry lists 7 children: Margaret Ann G, John G, Robert G, Elisabeth G, Sarah McClure G, Mary Nancy G, Annie R.G. and their spouses.  Sounds like the same family perhaps.

William Gaston served in the Revolutionary War from 1775 to 1782.

Thank you for your information on Irish roots. I am once again starting back to fill in the blanks! Nan Kuehn

William and Mary are my 8th great grandparents. I have information that they had a daughter that you do not have listed named Jennet Gaston Strong. She would be my 7th great grandmother. She was born in Ireland in 1726 and died at the hands of the British (via tombstone) in 1801 in SC. She married Charles Strong.
