I hope something can be done to brighten this little lot up, they all look so serious and on their best behaviour, but then in those days you didn't smile when being photographed.

1892 is handwritten on the back but of course it could be incorrect. Did children's clothes follow the same rules as adults? They seem to be a pretty mixed bunch of styles but the teacher is clear.

I have 2 others - dated 1894 and 1896 which I'll post later, perhaps there's a mix up there.

Beautiful photo. Do you know the name of the school? They all seem very well dressed. I bet the child in the top row in the middle and also the child in the top row at the end near the teacher were twins! What do you think?

Miss is wearing a Gigot sleeve which first appeared in 1893 & grew larger up to about 1897.This one's about mid inflation.
Some of the girls have a variation of this but with a much looser upper,first seen around 1896.
Quite a fashionable bunch & not your average back st. school.
There's a little Indian girl in front & this may be a school for children of the Empire,sent back to the UK by parents living abroad.
