Is there any evidence of a Rebecca WATSON baptized about 1780 in Whitley?

In the archives we have Whitley Lower but the records don't start untill 1846.

Thanks, that helps. On the 1851 census, her bp looks like Whitby Yorks, but as I couldn't find her there, I though it might be Whitley Yorks. Now I can eliminate that!

Hi Judy

If she lived in Whitley she could have been baptised at Thornhill as until the church in Whitley was built people were baptised, married and buried in Thornhill.

Whitby is in the North Riding; the Whitleys are in the West Riding so you should be able to differentiate between the two from your 1851 census information.

However, there are two Whitleys in the West Riding; one in the parish of Ecclesfield and one in the parish of Snaith and Kellington.

Whitley Lower is in the parish of Thornhill so, again, your 1851 census information should narrow it down.

From your the new familysearch site there are only two baptisms (unless she was born in Bingley) in the West Riding which may, or may not, mean anything:

Rebecca Watson on 7 Sep 1780 at Doncaster; d/o Vallentine Watson

Rebecca Wattson on 2 Apr 1780 at Birstall; d/o Samuel Wattson

Thanks so much. That may help, at least a couple of leads. The 1851 census is in London, so all I have is a birthplace.
