Hi
I have both (Catholic) marriage certs: first (1878) shows age as 22, father deceased; second shows age as 37 (!), father's details as before.
Early censuses show: 1861, aged 5, living with parents in Leeds, birthplace Stockton. 1871, aged 15, living with mother in Leeds, birthplace Stockton. Then all indicate that she was living in Leeds. 1881 aged 26, born Leeds; 1891 aged 34, born Leeds; 1901 aged 40, born Scotland; 1911 aged 52, born Leeds.
I think that her parents gave the right information in 1861 & 1871. Richard Spencer was younger than she was - so did she tell a porkie about her age? He died in Leeds, 1929 - witnessed by his son. (Because she was already dead?)
Am currently pursuing her birth in Stockton but there are several possibles!
