Hello and welcome to Rootschat,

Have you found her in 1901 and 1911 censuses?

Jen

Ok, so that has narrowed it down. Do you have any later points of reference for her? Addresses maybe?

Is she still in Yorkshire in 1911?

If I have the correct entry, 1911 has her year of birth as c1859.

There is a death in Leeds for Elizabeth Spencer, aged 68

Jun 1928 Leeds/9b/515

Have you checked this one out?

Am 99% certain she was born in 1856 (from previous research) and have checked NBI 3 for her death.  Don't want to order a wrong certificate (have done so for her once already).
She was in Leeds in 1911 and her history shows she'd been in area from age of 5 - so don't think she would have moved.  1901 census (ED24 Household 134) has her as born in Scotland, 1861 - she wasn't.
As you see, I'm really struggling!

Hi

Do you have her marriage certificate to James Boyle? This would give her father's name and occupation, hopefully, so you could pin her down as a child. I notice there are quite a few Elizabeth Johnson's born in the Leeds district. 1855. 1856, 2 x 1859, 1861.

However having said this, if she is not sure of her age then whoever registered the death won't be certain either. The death Jen found is a good possibility. Have you an idea when Richard died? If he was after the date given by Jen then I think he would most likely to have registered the death and you could ask the local registry office to check that before ordering the certificate.

Evie,

You have just said exactly what I was about to say, so I'll add my agreement to your suggestions.

Jen :)
