Nottingham City Centre Photo ID please
« on: Sunday 20 March 11 14:58 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I have acquired this photograph which appears to show a parade of some kind - union jacks are flying high. The photo is stamped EP SHORT ENDERBY RD., NOTTM.

Can anyone confirm the event or just confirm that this is in fact Nottingham.

Many Thanks
Andy

It looks to be Long Row on the left hand side of council house.

Enderby Road appears to be quite a way from there, and would suspect it to be the name of the photographer.

Andy is right about the EP Short being the photographer - his name was Ephraim P. Short and there was a thread about another one of his photos the other day. This one seems to be a bit later.

I would hazard a guess on this being a Royal visit, and the Royal visitor is in that open carriage in the middle of the picture.  There's a car in the background - can't date it but looks 20s or 30s.

I notice that the Picture House on the left is showing a film called "The Wizard" - there was a film of this name released in 1927.  The Royal Show of 1928 was held in Nottingham and the King and Queen attended, so perhaps this is the event in the photo?

HI,

I took this pic of the same area of Nottingham last year, you can still pick out a lot of the buildings.
(The large Council house building is just out of the picture on the right hand side.)

Best wishes,

The Council House was built between 1927 and its opening on 22nd May1929. The picture shows it to be near completion, so I would guess 1928.
King George and Queen Mary were at the Royal Show in Nottingham in July that year.

Snap, Skewy  ;)
