Kirkbymoorside Parish Registers
« on: Sunday 20 March 11 09:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi  everyone,

Was wondering if somebody may be able to look up  marriage on 5th March 1810 Kirkbymoorside between Alexander Stephenson and Kitty Hartley.   Looking for any other information with this entry.

Many thanks,
Val

Hi Val,

It just says that both Alexander and Kitty were of the parish and that they married by Banns.  Witnesses were William Bradley and John Shepherd

On familysearch.org there is a Alexander Stephenson born 10th April 1792 at Bilsdale Midcable, north of Helmsley and Kirby Moorside. Father shown as John Stephenson.
On the site it has the 1851 for him aged 62 born Bilsdale and living as a lodger.

I don't know if you need that info or not!

Thank you Snow Queen and The Mc for the information.  Do have him in census and baptism.  Was hoping for an occupation on the marriage entry.    Trying to fill in a gap between the marriage in 1810 and the first child, which appears to be 1819.

Many thanks.

Hi Val,

It looks like Alexander has followed his father's occupation because the baptism record of daughter Martha 30 June 1833 Kirbymoorside says he was a chimney sweeper

You probably already have them but in case not Alexander's parents were John and Isabella and Catherine's were John and Martha

Thank you Snow Queen, that is fantastic.  I didn't know who Alexander's mother was.  And are you telling me that Alexander's father, John, was a chimney sweep.??   This is very interesting.

Hi there

Just wondered if you had seen this Alexander Stephenson?
You asked why they hadnt had any children between the marriage
in 1810 and 1819.  I did find a Alexander born in 1816 in Helmsley
Unfortunately, I cannot seem to find him with parents. Were your
family born in Helmsley as well???
In the 1881 census he is then living with wife Mary, at a  son in laws
house up in Stockton on Tees. He is 65 which makes his year of
birth 1816.  He is the only one born in Helmsley at that
address. His daughter is called Mary Ann and his son in law is called James Horner.

Hi Val,

The baptism record for Alexander 1792 Bilsdale says his father John was a Sweep from the parish of Terrington.

Thank you snowqueen, that's  brilliant, a breakthrough with my tree.  Much appreciated.

Sandymc, that Alexander Stephenson you found in the census living with daughter Mary Ann, is my great x 3 grandfather.  I have been researching this for quite some time and am convinced that Alexander who married Kitty Hartley is either a cousin or uncle of his.   Have all the same family names and occupations.

Will plod on, many thanks.
