Surfleet/Moulton - Savage
« on: Saturday 19 March 11 09:33 GMT (UK) »
This has been posted several times over the years in various forms.

Am looking for any information on a Eugene & Phoebe Savage, had a John Savage bapt. 1794 at Kneesall, Notts and possibly moved to Moulton or Surfleet afterwards.

John was teacher by 1818 at Moulton Grammer School then married at Surfleet and returned to Moulton, came back to Surfleet in 1821 as School Master.

Have so far not found any burial of a Eugene Savage at Moulton or Surfleet, only burial was a Phoebe Savage at Surfleet 28/4/1822 age 68.

Nor any children other that John that I can connect with Eugene & Phoebe.

Can anyone please help, now getting desperate.

Hi diddymiller,

Thank you for replying, John Savage married Ann  Smalley in 1818, but no parents were mentioned.
Have fiche for West Elloe marriages 1700-1812 and a copy 1813 -1856 but fathers weren't mentioned until end of 1837.

Also have burials 1813-1900 for West Elloe but not before, Eugene could have been buried prior to 1813 but where?

There are a lot of Savage children in both Moulton and Surfleet and have managed to sort same out.

Hi Beckey
You might like to know that Jno Savage (presumably your Surfleet schoolmaster John Savage) witnessed the Will of Michael Lenton who was from  Surfleet.  I am trying to get more details about Michael Lenton.

The Will is available to see at Lincs Archives in Lincoln (their website Lincs to the Past is excellent).

Hi SueMe

Found the will you mentioned, but would have to send for same, have already got 3 wills that John Savage witnessed one for his father in law John Smalley and his step father in law John Brown both residing in Surfleet and the other one Edward Watson of Boston.

Have never heard of Michael Lenton.

Michael Lenton was a farmer in Surfleet - he was the first husband of my g-g-grandmother.  Don't think the Will would be of tremendous interest to you other than John Savage signed as witness.

I noticed that in the Lincs archives website there is a document available - "Two letters concerning a schoolmaster "  which seem to be about John Savage.  I guess you know about that.

Kind regards - Sue
