Hello Jenny  :)

The Chapel is listed on Genuki:

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/GLA/LlantwitFardre/Chapels.html

The Colliers Arms, Llantwit Fardre is on the 1880 Slater's Directory, with David John as the Landlord:

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/GLA/LlantwitFardre/Pontypridd/slaters.1880.html

Kind Regards
Morgan

Chapel could be Calvary English Baptist Church, Wood Road, Treforest  :)

Looking at the 1881 Census, the Colliers looks to be near the Church

On 1861 census Colliers Arms  is next to church
I went to see Calvary English Baptist Church, Wood Road, Treforest  Its about 6 miles from Llantwit Fardre It seemed a long way to go in 1869

What addresses are on the marriage certificate, and how far are these places from Calvary? People were often prepared to walk/travel to the Chapel of their chosen denomination, often passing several other plaecs of worship on the way.

I'm not that familiar with the area but I know that Treforest is named as a place within the boundaries of Llantwit Fardre, as are Tonteg, Glyntaff, etc. See the Genuki page on Llantwit Fardre. There were several pubs called "Colliers Arms", as you would guess! On Slaters 1858-9,  Elias Thomas was at the Colliers, Treforest.

The Address on Marriage cert is" Next to the church" with the church being calvary church so cert has not been much help It looks like the modern day LLantwit Fardre is not the same as the old llanwit which seems to be centred round St Illtyds Church .
