I came across this wonderful resource a few weeks ago.
www.askscotland.org.uk is an online information service provided by Scotland’s libraries that lets you get real answer from real people direct to your desktop.
Your questions will go to a librarian who will research your query and send a customised response.
The National library of Scotland is one of the participating libraries, there are many other local libraries too.
I decided to try it out. I asked: What was the population of Kirkcudbrightshire in 1800?
The response was sent within 12 hours: “The closest date for statistics is 1801 when the population for Kirkcudbrightshire was recorded as 29211 in 'The statistical account of Scotland' edited by Sir John Sinclair.”
It’s open to anybody anywhere in the world. Definitely a website to bookmark!
