Hello all...

I wanted all of you to know JUST how much I appreciated your efforts last year restoring this photo. I had received this photo from Cora's son Richard.  I just discovered a few days ago that he died.  Cora's son Richard "Dick Haring' was a busy IN SHAPE gentleman who lived life to the fullest.  He was new cousin I discovered last year when looking into my Haring lines...he ran every day.  He lifted weights.  He was in wonderful shape.

He was kind enough to take a snapshot of his mother's picture hanging on the wall in his hallway.  Though 76 years old he looked every bit MUCH younger.  He rolled on the floor with his grandkids and never sat still.  When I contacted him last year after discovering he was the son of my grandfather's half brother, he told me he had not really gotten into genealogy yet.  He said he would try to hunt up some old photos one day soon but had to take care of a wife going into surgery and had the responsibility of watching his 4 grandchildren several days a week.

Following your wonderful work, I was able to send these photos to him and to his niece who was said to look very much like her grandmother Cora.

I got busy...he got busy and I had not contacted him for a year.  Just the other day, I was prompted to send him an email to see if he had gotten a chance to scan those photos for me.  His email bounced back nondeliverable.  I then picked up the phone and left him a cheery message after hearing his wonderful deep voice on his cell phone.

Later that afternoon I received a call from his wife Ginnie.  She told that Dick had died!  Though in wonderful shape, a tumor in his brain was cancerous and took his life within a few months.  She said that those photos we had talked about were still siting on his office desk.  She thought he had long ago scanned them long ago.

After hearing this, I wanted to find this posting (which did take me a few minutes to find) to THANK you for bringing his beautiful mother back to him!  He LOVED each and every ONE Of your photos that you worked so diligently on.  I had also sent these photos to Dick's niece who was said to look like this grandmother.  When Dick's email came back I had sent her a short hello to see how things were.  She said her family was saddened as indeed am I.  I was searching for family and now another family member has passed away.

Though life is evanescent and soon passes, our memories do stay with us forever.  Thanks one and all...your efforts will live on forever!

With deepest gratitude and appreciation

Your friend from Plano Texas

I was so touched by your story Carole - it is a story of loss but so much gained on the journey and I am sure the interaction between your new found cousin with yourself and the wonderful restorations done on his Mums picture did much to bring joy and light into his final days.  He sounds to have been a truly remarkable man.

No doubt the man upstairs had need of his services and called him home.  They are never gone when held in someone's heart.

Cheers

Maureen

Another, albeit late, attempt at bringing the picture back to life.
