If the John Hudson I'm looking for married an Ann from a different parish, this could be him

John Hudson married Ann Morris  17 March 1791 in Cossington, Seagrave, Leicester.

What would be the best way to try & follow that up ?

Thank you both very much....enjoy your meal, diddy.

I'm just thinking.....Burto & I have this family in common....we both go back to Thomas, who was definitely born in Ruddington, Notts & who is definitely listed as the son of John & Ann Hudson. I think Burto got John's parents as William Hudson & Dorothy Goodwin, who married in Shepshed , Leics, from someone else....I don't think we've got proof of that. The connection between our John Hudson & Shepshed could be completely spurious....based only on the fact that Shepshed & Ruddington are not too far apart. The John & James Hudson (who were maybe the children of William & Dorothy), who married Mary Alt & Ann Hutchinson in Shepshed, could be totally unrelated to our John Hudson who married Ann & was the father of our Thomas.

He could have come from anywhere.

So better save yourself the trouble of the work, diddy (she said, graciously), till burto gets back & lets us know how convincing the link is between our John Hudson & William & Dorothy Hudson in Shepshed. In the meantime, I'll try to find any more John Hudsons marrying Anns in Notts & Leics

Thanks very, very, much diddy for your patience

Just realised that what I've written above is partly tosh, although the end result is the same....Thomas (b 1832) was the son of William Hudson & Mary Hodge (he born 1800 in Shepshed & she born 1799 in Sutton Bonnington, Notts.....again, near the Notts/Leics border...they were married in Ruddington in 1828) & William was the son of John & Ann

It looks like a widowed Ann Hudson (Morris) on the 1841 census in Cossington with her son, John, aged 40. Of course, it's possible that she & her husband John lived in Shepshed where William was born & she moved back to Cossington when she was widowed. (Aaargh !)

Would my next step be to try & find out where the John Hudson who married Ann Morris died....just in case she moved back to Cossington after his death ?

I'm trying to trace this back to my own satisfaction, before diddy or anyone else is kind enough to go running about for me. What I've established for myself is that I go back to Thomas Hudson who was born in 1832 in Ruddington, Notts (near the Leics border). The 1841 census shows him living there with his parents, William & Sarah & his siblings. I can't find William's birth (c 1800/1806)....& he's supposed to be the one born in Shepshed. I've been looking at the sources on Ancestry (not other people's family tree). I've also got a subscription to findmypast.

I'd be very obliged if someone could double check Ancestry for William's birth for me. If we can't find it, what is the most reliable way for me to try & find it, please ?

have you got William & Sarah on the 1851? birth place /date should be clearer.

might be helpful if you posted a summary of what we DO know - I'm getting confused!!
