Marriage Bertram Rawlinson to Amy Ross Liverpool
« on: Wednesday 16 March 11 13:41 GMT (UK) »
I know this is alot to ask for, I was wondering if anyone was going to the record office and find from the mirco film the marriage of
Bertram Rawlinson to Amy G Ross in July 1915, I need to know how Bertram's dad is. I cannot justify buying a certificate to find out, as he is a great, great uncle. However I am wondering if I have the right Bertram Rawlinson, as I found a death for a Bertie Rawlinson in 1914 ( mother's name correct and residence and birthplace correct for death, birthday wrong). So things are not adding up, if he died, how can he marry the next year.
If you can help that would be great, but please don't go out of your way.

Hello

FreeBMD doesn't appear to show a death for a "Bertie" Rawlinson in 1914 - may I ask where that death has been found?

CWGC shows this in 1916: http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=1550334

However, FreeBMD shows two Rawlinson births with mother's maiden name Ross in Toxteth Park in 1916 and 1921 respectively, so the WWI death may well be someone other than Amy's husband.

His death is under naval causelities  Bertie 1/11/1914 at Battle of Cornel on HMS Monmouth, and it was reported to his mother Louise (louisa) of Toxteth park Liverpool) it also states he was born in Runcorn Cheshire. My Bertram's  was listed as Bertie and mother was Louisa who lived in Toxteth at that time and he was born in Runcorn, however his birth year was 1892 and not 1893 as listed under the causelties. I have searched for another Bertie and other varients of the name, born in 1893 with a mother Louise/Louisa, born in Runcorn and living in Toxteth and can't find any. Searches keep coming up with my Bertram. There is a Herbert Rawlinson however he was not born in Runcorn but Bolton, and his mother is Sarah and he was born in 1895.
It has me perplexed. Bertie is also listed on some sites of the naval causelties of this battle and not on others. Getting his father's name from the marriage details would have just confirmed if he is mine.

By the way, the family history would indicate he joined the navy, as several generations joined the navy and his brother Herbert was already in the navy.

Sorry, no connection. I have checked and I have no George Rawlinson at all. My Rawlinsons did not move to Liverpool until 1894/95, they were in Runcorn, Cheshire before then.

I see - the person you are referring to appears in the CWGC record as Bertie Stanley Rawlinson: http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=3045340

His age at death is given as 21 in the CWGC record, which is consistent with a birth from November 1892 to October 1893.  If the name and address of his mother are correct I think you can be confident he is your man, even if his age is out by a little bit (was he registered as Bertram Rawlinson, Sep qtr 1892 Runcorn 8a 230?).
