Clydebank Greyhound track
« on: Monday 14 March 11 11:46 GMT (UK) »
Just found out there was a greyhound track on the site of what is now the Yoker high flats south of the railway line at Yoker station.

My father used to own a greyhound and raced it there.
Anyone have any info on Clydebank Greyhound track?

Thanks in advance.

When I was a wee boy passing the greyhound track, I used to hear the roar of the crowd and thought it was a football match. I never knew it was a greyhound track. You should check out 'Welcome To Clydebank' website and sign up to their forum. There is a lot of information to be had there.

myyran left a message to say the pub at hamilton Street was the Victoria Bar, and that rings a bell with me.

As a wee boy living in Peters' Square I could hear the punters roaring on a summer night.
I think the correct name was " The Clydeholm Greyhound Stadium", it was what is known as a "flapper track", in other words it did not belong to the official greyhound racing establishment.

At that time 1940s/50s Rothesay Dock was always busy with iron ore carriers and a lot of the crews' money used to be invested in the dugs

According to my late father "ringing" was not unknown.
