Mary....

My pleasure....

Winifred Danby , married in 1933. Her husband was Harry Sumpner, born 1905. I can't see, that they had any children I am afraid. In 1937, they were living near Winifred's parents, Ellen and James, at 14, Barnet Street, Wortley.

There is some body, on Ancestry, with Harry Sumpner on their tree.

Where would the best place to find the parish registers for St. Peter's for a marriage in 1851?
I have ordered the civil but would love to see the church record.
Any suggestions?
Mary

Good Morning Mary.

I am pretty certain, that the Parish Records for St Peter's Church in Leeds, are held at The Leeds Reference Library, details of which I gave you in a earlier post. They are open 7 days a week.
Email address: local.studies@leeds.gov.uk if you would like to check in advance

If not there, then Yorkshire Archaelogical Society, Family History Section do have them. You would need to make a appointment though, as they have limited opening hours, being run by volunteers

This is only a short distance from the library. In my youth, I could walk there easily, but now would take a taxi. There is a free bus available also, from Leeds City Bus station. I am afraid I do not know any details, as I no longer live in Leeds.

St Peter's Church, is Leeds Parish Church, and is worth a visit.

Best Regards

As has been said, look at the record in Leeds library staff very helpful.
If you indicate you want a print of the record, cost about 50p.

Hi Mary, I am Winifred Sumpner nee Danby's grandaughter Helen Godby nee Reed! She also has a grandson Martin Reed. Her and Harry Sumpners only daughter is my mum Anne Reed living in Pudsey, her dad Harry Sumpner died when she was 2 1/2 and Grandma (winnie) brought her up alone. I am very active in researching family trees but have struggled with the sumpners not much available on gaeneology website. Hope to hear from you, Helen.

Hello Helen,

And a huge welcome to Rootschat, which I think is the best site there is for family research.
I just hope mary reads your post, before she sets off on her journey, it would bve really good if you could meet up.....

What information , do you require, re your Sumpners ? I may be able to help

Otherwise just post your questions, on the West Yorkshire board. I am sure someone will come up with the answers....

Best wishes

JeannieR

Hello Helen!,
I just returned home from England on Friday.  I am so sorry to have missed meeting a cousin in England.  You would have made my trip.  I was not very successful in my research in England.  I definitely would love to share what I have on the family and help you in any research you need.
My direct e-mail is *
I check that e-mail daily.  Unfortunately I can't open this website at work so that is why I am writing late in the evening.
So good to hear I have a cousin in England!
So, so good to hear.
