1861 census in which she's married to Richard, and I have their marriage cert so that's how I know her maiden name...

Hi

It looks like you already have the family on the 1851 census

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,512455.0.html

which indicates her name may have been Mary Ann and the marriage might have taken place before the beginning of civil registration.

1841 census HO107 1243/12 folio 4
Uckerby Yorkshire
Frances King 78 Miller
Mary King 76
Richard King 33
Frances King 15
Mary King 32
Mary King 1
all born in county except Mary aged 32

Hi

There is this marriage

Marriages Jun 1839
BELWOOD  John    Northallerton  24 435
ETHERINGTON  Ralph     Northallerton  24 435
KILBURN  Elizabeth     Northallerton  21 435
KING  Richard     Northallerton  26 435
PATTISON  Esther     Northallerton  24 435
POINT  Ann     Northallerton  24 435

Northallerton civil registration district  covered these registration districts

http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/northallerton.html

The civil registration district would be adjacent to Uckerby in Richmond civil registration district sub district Catterick, but Yorkshire civil registration districts covered large areas.

Richard King is an incorrect volume number in the GRO index if he married in Northallerton civil registration district so his name on FreeBMD doesn't come up with the other 5. However it does give the correct 6 names for three marriages that would be found on the same page of the GRO volume, one spouse being Ann Point? Richard King could have married any of the three women named and Ann Point if he married her would have to be in reality Ann Porrit (unless the birth certificate was the record with the incorrect spelling) so this is a risky certificate.

Whereas a baptism for Porrit hasn't yet been found there is one for Point but not in not Middlesex but Lambeth which would now be seen as inner London - some other children were baptised in Middlesex.

19th November 1809 St Mary Lambeth Surrey born 18th September
Mary Ann Point parents William and Ann Margaret

other children are baptised in the surname Points (both parents were buried as Points in Lambeth, William was a barge builder)

The downside is a Mary Ann Points married William Crack in 1831 at St Saviour Southwark so probably unfortunately a red herring.

Valda

Valda,
That's fantastic research! I'm getting grief from someone else for not replying quick enough so thanks!
Point sounds a reasonable assumption - the Porritt is noted on her wedding cert to Richard but presume it could have been misheard whilst doing the cert?
And the time between marrying Crack and King is 8 years so could realistically be the same Ann if Crack died between the two dates...
Thanks again  ;D
