Wheeler Brick Wall
« on: Friday 11 March 11 09:15 GMT (UK) »
I have a marriage certificate for John Davies and Edith Wheeler married in 1919 in Bridgend, South Wales.

According to the certificate Edith was 20 when she married, and her father was Edwin.

I have checked the 1901 and 1911 census' and the only Edith (1899) and Edwin together are in Lambeth, London. I do not want to assume that is corrcet without verification, so have searched for deaths of Edith Davies in the 1980s, so I can order the death certificate and find her place of birth.

There were 2 deaths of Edith Davies' in Bridgend that were born as Wheeler, but the father  on the 1901 and 1911 census is not an Edwin

So, I'm stuck.

Any suggestions?

hi lr
i,ve found this birth reg for an edith wheeler born lambeth 1899  march qtr vol 1d page 445  and an edith mary born lambeth 1899 march qtr vol 1d p 387 .
so these would be consistant with the census record you,ve found if you got the birth cert you should get both mother and fathers names and as you already have found in the census records an edith and edwin wouldn,t it be better to spend £9.50 on this birth cert rather than a very tentative death cert .
hope this makes sense

Edith was my Husbands Grandmother, and I know for a fact that she was in Bridgend when she died.

If I get the birth record for Edith born in Lambeth, that will not prove that she is the right Edith that died in Bridgend.

The correct death record will show her place of birth so I can then search her birth records.

I was thinking of ringing the local records office to see if they could check it first before I paid for the certificate, - would they be able to do check the address as I know where she was living when she died?

I would give them a ring - I googled Bridgend Register office and found this page http://www.bridgend.gov.uk/web/groups/public/documents/services/000856.hcsp#_How_do_I

At the bottom of the page is -
Is there anyone I can speak to in case I need to clarify anything?
Certainly - give Bridgend Register Office a call on (01656) 642391 and a member of staff will be happy to help you or email them at registrar@bridgend.gov.uk
