1891 Census Henry Hignell
« on: Thursday 10 March 11 22:57 GMT (UK) »
Can anybody find Henry Hignell in the 1891 census?  I can't.  According to freebmd.co,uk , Henry Hignell 's death was recorded in Abergavenny , Volume 11a, page 34.  Does this mean he was no longer living in St. Woollos, Newport? ( he'd been there since 1841)

Is it  possible he had been sent to the hospital/asylum, or could he have been in prison?

I forgot to add the death was recorded in June 1892.  Could his family have delayed in recording it, and why in another district?

Hi
I can not find Henry or any other Hignell for Monmouth/Glamorgan in 1891 Census  The only one close for monmouthshire was a Mary Hignett in St Woolos so it may be worth your while checking for spelling mistakes.

Yes, I believe that was Mary Hignell, not Hignett, and she was Henry's sister.  All the same, I'll try a Hignet search in both England and Wales.

Odd, how my Grandma never talked about her family, and they are still proving quite elusive.  I even checked the NYC records to see if he was visiting his Daughter, Mary Jane Diamond, in Brooklyn, or was living with her.  Only found one Henry Hignell, who was born in Duchess County, NY in 1865.  Nothing in the Immigration records.

Hi I believe the death in Abergavenny in 1862 is more than likely this man:-
Henry Hignett (Looks like Hignell on original) Inmate/Widower 67 occ Wharf Labourer/Lunatic b Hollestone Gloucs, I have no idea where that place is in relationship to St Woolos?
Residing at Joint Counties Lunatic Asylum, Abergavenny.
Census Ref RG12/4348/140/20

Oh, how sad.  I was afraid it was something like that.  It's got to be the right Henry Hignell, because he appeared as a general laborer in the previous censuses.  Once I get my life reorganized ( am dealing with two chronic illnesses) and get back to work, I want to take a trip to Wales, Gloucestershire, and Devon, to visit the archives in person.

According to GoogleEarth, Abergavenny is about a 30 minute car ride from Newport.  How awful for his Sisters, and his daughter, Henrietta.  At times, the research is fairly routine, but then a human tragedy like this just slaps you in the face.

Hi as you say, very sad, the pob of Hollestone is clearly written on original, but it does not appear as that name on modern Google Maps, do you or any RC's know where it was in Gloucestershire?
