read                  Amongst Our Own - The Inniskea by Tomás  Bán O Raghallaigh

Welcome from me also Tomas.

As you can see this is an old thread and we now have more information available - including the book which I was going to mention until I read to your post.
My husband’s family are in the book.  :)

If you look at the first post it is dated 2011.
The poster, however, might still receive emails of new postings and, of course, if anyone else searches for the information, it is now updated.

Hi I believe this is my family as well my grandfather was harry McWilliams mother Mary Cain, any info on the Cains would he appreciated
Hi
Thank you for taking an interest
Mary,1878  was my great grandmother ,i got her parents names from her bc
then went on to Mayo Ancestor site and found the marriage for her parents and
also her siblings
you are right in saying there were a lot of Keanes because Mary,1878 married John Keane
born 1880 of Mullaghroe his parents were Edward Keane and Mary Keane
Mary and John married in 1903 here in Scotland
so very confusing

The grandson of Anthony has been in touch with me ,he has a copy of one of the books
but he has leant it out at the moment.  We have only been in touch recently as we did not
know of one another
keep you posted if i find out anymore
Thanks

Welcome to Rootschat chat, Fin.
What information do you already have about Mary Cain? It would help people to search and not to repeat anything you already have.
I can see a marriage and birth on Scotlands People site for two people called Walter McWilliams with Cain as spouse/mother but I think she would be Maggie Cain.

You may find this of interest :-

“The Aran Islands.”  by J.am.Synge.
An account if the daily life of the people there.
Written in 1907, just prior to the islanders being taken from the islands and re domiciled on the mainland.
Some of Synge’s own photographs included.
ISBN  0-19-281258-0.
Oxford Paperbacks .Oxford University Press.
Another number under the ISBN — 9 780192 812582

I think the lifestyle, dictated by similar conditions ,would be very much the same.
Viktoria.

“The Aran Islands.”  by J.am.Synge.

That would be none other than John Millington Synge, as in the writer of "The Playboy of the Western World".
