Plunkett Brothers in Dublin
« on: Thursday 10 March 11 18:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone,

I am looking for the Plunkett brothers' names.
I am told Oliver Warren Plunkett had 4 older brothers and 2 older sisters and 1 younger sister. I am trying to find their names.

The Plunkett brothers were well known Malters that supplied to Guiness & Co Brewery in Dublin for 50 years or so. I found Plunketts worked or lived on Robert Street, Islandbridge and Portland Street but never showed their names. It allways have said Plunkett Bros or John Plunkett & Co.

Oliver Warren Plunkett used to worked with his father and brothers at Bellevue Maltings but Oliver got disowned and got him off his father's will because Oliver married Emma Brown as she was an protestant as whole Plunketts were Roman Catholics.

Would appreicate any ideas how to find plunkett brothers full names. Its believed one of them was called Randall Plunkett and his wife Eliza as I found Arthur Guiness's advertising Plunkett Bros and thanking Randall's wife Eliza for the connection between those both companies for 50 years. this was published in 1819. Randal was already dead by then.

Usually the best way to find siblings is to first locate the parents for one of the known children, by starting with a marriage and then following up with a search for a baptism. Given the very early dates involved in this case that may not be an easy option as early marriage records are usually lacking in details such as father's name.

If this Plunkett family were Catholic then it might be an idea to search for them in the Dublin City parish records on www.irishgenealogy.ie  Further RC records for the city are due to be added later this year.

Piggot's 1827 shows a John Brown Plunket, maltster at Portland Street

Slater's 1846 show a Richard Plunket & Co. Maltsters at 21 Ardee St and a John Plunkett, maltster, 6 West Portland st

Thanks so much Shane.

I just found out Oliver's one of brothers. John Randal Plunkett but known as Randal, he married an english lady called Eliza Anne Partington in England. John took over the Maltings business from his late father Randal. When John Randell died, his wife Eliz took over and went into partnership with John Boydell. After her death, she left a will, left the business to John boydell and left money to her children and oddly, she named one of her sons to make sure the business money being paid out to him annually as long as he doesnt get involved by taking the control of the business!

Sadly cant find any connection to Plunketts in irishgenealogy site.

There's a Randall Plunkett and his wife Eliza D'Arcy,  they were possibly being Oliver's parents.

I am wondering...

Oliver was a Roman Catholic and married a protestant Emma Brown, would Oliver convert to protestant or he still be roman catholic? Because I found this baptism record of a child Mary Evelyn Purcell Plunkett but Mary was baptised in Church of Ireland? on her record, Oliver's occupation was Malster.  Mary was one of  Oliver and Emma's children.

Hi
One of Plunket Brothers was called Allen. Oliver married Emma Warren Browne who was an English protestant. Oliver became a protestant, they had 12 children all protestant 8 survived.
Olivers parents were Randal and Eliza D'Arcy. I too would like to find out about Olivers siblings. One of his sisters married someone with the surname Spring in Dublin.

Hi,
I just found your messages and hope to be able to help you.  I am a descendent of Randal Plunkett  and have  quite alot of information on the family.
Randal was my great great grandfather. He married Eliza Byrne D'Arcy His son John Randal was my great grandfather. He married Cecilia Mary Reid in London. His company was called Plunkett Bros.
John Randal had as far as I know two brothers, Oliver Charles and Alan Vincent who died aged 16.  He had three sisters all unmarried, Clara, Mary and Isabella.
There is another John Plunkett who I am almost sure is a  brother of Randal  Plunkett, He married Eliza Ann Partington (his 2nd marriage). His company was called John Plunkett and Co.
I have more information on the Plunkett and Byrne D'Arcy family and also the Spring family and would love to share any of this with you.
