COMPLETED Birth/Baptism of Edward Kenny 1847 Tynemouth
« on: Thursday 10 March 11 17:14 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me please?

My 2GTGF Edward Kenny was born in North Shields and his birth was registered in Mar qtr 1847 (Tynemouth Vol 24 Page 450). I know from his marriage certificate that his father's name was also Edward Kenny but need some help with his mother's name. From Censuses she is Mary Ann Kenny and I thought her maiden surname was King.

However, looking on FamilySearch it appears that a Mary Ann King married an Edward Kenny on 02 Sept 1855. If this is correct then it maybe another Edward Kenny as mine had a daughter called Sarah in 1845. I'm pretty sure it is the right marriage though but am wondering whether there may had been a typing error and whether they married in 1845?

Can anyone help by looking up Edward kenny's birth/baptism in 1847?

Hi,

Thank you so much for your reply, Speedy gonzales!

I just need to sort out his mother's maiden name now. I know she is listed as being born in Scotland on 1851 and 1861 censuses but then on 1881 census she is shown as born in North Shields.

Can anyone else help with jis mother's maiden surname?

Since his baptism does not reflect the maiden name of the mother your other recourse is to order his birth certificate.

What religion?

Hi Janis,

St Cuthberts is a Roman Catholic church.

I thought about obtaining Edward's BC but wanted to do it more cheaply as the amount of certificates I've been buying is costing me a fortune every month. I travelled up to Durham recently and visited a Records Office for the first time and was surprised at the depth of information I obtained and certainly got more than was available on FS. That's why I was hoping someone visiting Newcastle or Woodthorn could look it up for me.

I can't seem to find some of the children of Edward Kenny and Mary Ann who are on the censuses on FS either.

Why do you think she isnt Mary King when on Sarahs baptism notes 1845 St Cuthberts it names her father as Edward Kenny and mother Mary King,

There is more than one Mary King mentioned in the church records in North Shields just different generations,St Cuthberts to,

Maria King Kenny born 21st of October 1825 daughter of Joanni sand Anna Eddy King was baptised St Cuthberts North Shields, the 9 th of March 1867,

Hiya,

I was confused about Edward's wife being Mary Ann King because the only marriage I could find was in 1855 yet I could find their children born years before this. I was also experiencing some difficulty in finding some of their children too but I've now had some success with that as I've realised that sometimes the parents names are in olde English with quite a few variations.

Am I reading your reply correctly in that it looks as if Mary King was baptised when she was 42 years old?

Thank you so much for your help and I'm sorry if I've caused you to waste your time unnecessarily.

Sorry you haven't wasted my time at all, I just was wondering if you can get to Newcastle by train ,I have looked at St Cuthberts records at the Discovery in Newcastle and they do have quite a bit of information on them if I remember rightly,
I would double check for you myself ,but I wont be going until next month,
Best wishes and good luck Gillian

I have seen adults baptised into the catholic church before ,possibly because she married  a Catholic man and her children were baptised at St Cuthberts, and she just got round to it,she would want to be buried with her husband when she passed away ,wouldn't you,
I think her baptism record would be of great interest to you,
