Old R.I.C. Station, Church place
« on: Thursday 10 March 11 14:27 GMT (UK) »
Hi, My Grandfather (william) was a Head Constable and lived in the Church Place station with his family from 1934 through to 1942 (the site of the current RUC base). Would anyone be able to point me in the direction of where I could obtain any pictures of the station during his time there....the only picture I have been able to find is in the National library of Ireland c.1814.?

Many Thanks for any assistance
paul

The PSNI Museum in Belfast may be able to help:

Hi Elwyn, many thanks for your reply.

I visited Hugh (currator) in the PSNI museum a year odd ago with my dad - now 80 - who was 2-3 when he lived in the station with his sister and brothers:), a lot of the material in the PSNI museum is still uncatalogued at the moment unfortunately, but I did receive a lot of info and they were a great help. In conjunction with the RIC forum - which is a great resource - family records and the National Archives in Dublin I have more or less all the factual history.

I suppose, at the moment, I am hoping moreso for some local pics really of the base in lurgan around the time when my dad and my aunt were kids to show them and relive some memories..

The RIC forum is:

Many Thanks,
Paul

Hi,

Meant to add link. The old base is the 3 story building to left of picture below with the split railings in front.

Berwicks Pub and the Blaney Pub were to the left and Tippings Grocers were to the right...

Thx, Paul

My father was also stationed there at that time and I have some personal photographs. Please send me a PM and I'll send you copies.
