James Wilson - 1870 North Seaton??
« on: Thursday 10 March 11 13:50 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

Please could someone help me to locate the birth/baptism record for this man.

James Wilson born about 1870 (from census records, which appear to be consistent).

His parents are Robert Wilson (b1834 Bywell, St Peter) and Frances Wilkinson (b 1837 Woodhead, Bellingham)

I have the following census records

1871 - James aged one year born Leemailing?
1881 - James aged 11 years born North Seaton
1901 - James aged 32 years born North Seaton married to Eliazabeth Johnson

As there are so many James Wilson's I am unable to find a birth.  I also do not understand why he would be born in North Seaton and what parish should I look under?  I have no surviving family left to help with this and I do not know when or where he died

I also have him on the 1911 census after Elizabeth has died, he is aged 41 so I am pretty sure 1870 is a true year.

Any help would be really appreciated.  Many thanks

North Seaton came under the Morpeth registration district but Leemailing came under Bellingham RD

The only one b Morpeth was March qtr 1870 - not in Bellingham

A cautionary note though - failure to register a birth only became a fineable offence in 1874/75 so there is no absolute guarantee that his parents registered his birth

For the era in which you are interested, North Seaton was one of the "townships" that made up the Parish of Woodhorn.

So Anglicans in North Seaton would have used Woodhorn Parish Church for baptisms, marriages and burials.

Thank you so much,

I have had a look at Woodhorn in 1870 and found him!  If I was now going to look on BMD what would be the district?

Thanks again, nearly all the dead ends that I have had have been resolved by the help of people on Rootschat

Kindest regards Emma

Emma,

As already written by CaroleW, North Seaton lay within the Registration District of Morpeth.

The River Blyth marked part of the boundary between the Reg Dists of Morpeth ( northern) and Tynemouth ( south).
