Co Carlow O'Brien's

Hi,

I am trying to track down the birth of my grandad Andrew O'Brien born in Carlow.   In the 1911 Dublin census Andrew is shown as being 49 years of age, which would put his birth at c1862.  My grandad had an older brother whose name was James, he would have been born c1854.  The father of James and Andrew was also named James, no info on the mother.  Would appreciate any info from anybody else possibly researching Carlow O'Brien's.

You'll probably need a bit more detail, such as parish of townland to start a search for Andrew's birth as O'Brien is a common surname.

If I remember correctly your O'Briens were Catholic ?

There are some Carlow parish records available on www.irishgenealogy.ie but only Church of Ireland records at the moment. It might be worth checking that website for updates to see if they add RC records at some point.

To give you an idea of the number of parishes that you need to search, have a look at the parish map for Co. Carlow on the Irish Times website - see : Carlow RC Parishes  Most have records back to the early 1800s at least.

Thanks a lot for the speedy response.  Don't know if you remember the possible match for Andrew's Dublin remarriage you dug up?  I sent off for the certificate which arrived today, and it was what I hoped, his occupation and the fact that he was a widower clinched it.

I'll take up your advice regarding the RC records.

Hello!  I am attempting to research my O'Brien line in Dublin and I just located a record for my 4th great-grandfather, Murrough O'Brien.  In it, it advises that he is from Tullow.  In your research, have  you come across any Murrough's in the area or even in your family?  He would have been born in the early 1800's.

I hope to hear from you, but i noticed that this post was from over a year ago.  Thanks again!
