Doherty, Sugarhouse Lane in Derry

I am really interested in the Doherty family. My grandmother Katie Doherty was the daughter of Patrick Doherty and Mary Coyle. They lived at Sugarhouse Lane in Derry. I've seen the 1901 & 1911 census - oh how we all wish the others weren't lost!! Anyway we are connected to the Mc Callisters I think but I'm really interested in Patricks line at the moment. He seems to have been away working as he is not on the 1911 census.

Doherty is probably the most common surname in Londonderry City and surrounding area and McAllister is also not uncommon. What makes you think there might be a connection to Cornelius McAllister and Sarah Jane Doherty who lived in Ballymena, Co.Antrim?
Note: these 2 posts split from a thread on Antrim board-

Hey Chris,
My Grandad was Patrick Doherty, the younger brother of Kit. Have you managed to find out any information about Patrick Snr. I believe he worked at Harland and Wolff but other than that I have no idea about my Irish family.

I am Michael Patrick Doherty (Son of Patrick Doherty and Bessie Doherty) I am assuming you are my cousin Bernadette's son or daughter the other response was from Nigel my son.
I've only started looking at this in the last week but I think my niece is also looking as well.

Welcome to Rootschat
Unfortunately the original poster hasn't been online since 2010 and never responded to my post or Nigel's.
Lots of great Irish resources have come online since 2010 (many of them free) so do let us know if there's anything we can help you with.

You were only put on the census if you were in house of the time the census people called. I don't think any census for 1921 because of the troubles. You could ask the council in Derry about the Electrol lists.
Could could also write to one of the local papers and ask them to put a letter in for you asking for information.

For reference, here's the 1911 census records for the family-
