I have obtained a copy of the 1767 Return of Papists, Diocese of Chester which covers most of Lancaster and a surname index. I would be happy to look up any names but I only have to book for a few days.

Hi,
If you still have the book could you look up Richard Tyrer possibly from Ulnes Walton/ Croston.
Many Thanks,

Great - Thanks for that. They have a lot of detail in these records. The Wrightington entry looks like a possibility. Can I be cheeky and ask if there was a Peter Tyrer who was probably Richards father.

Hi Matt, sorry I couldn't find a Peter anywhere in the document not just in Wrightington. There was a Roger, Henry, Thomas, and one Jos who was 'reputed to be a priest' in Lancaster.

I've just noticed a transcription of the Return for the parish of Chorley in Lancashire is on Lancashire Online Parish Clerks website.
