Thank you for the comments and, once again, my apologies for the delay in response. I have not been at home; alas not a holiday.

I do not have the marriage of Joseph Sandford and Hannah or Samuel Sandford and Amelia Haigh so I should very much appreciate this information if you have it to hand.

There may also be a connection between Amelia Haigh and Joseph Sandford's mother Mary Haigh. There are, however, an enormous number of Haighs in the area.

Joseph Sandford married Hannah Smith at All Hallows Kirkburton 25th Dec 1806- the witnesses were Samuel Sandford and John Smith
Samuel Sandford married Amelia Haigh at All Hallows Kirkburton 24th May 1830.

Yes I have wondered about a connection between Mary Haigh and Amelia's family. In sheer desperation I have collected all the Haighs I can put my hands on and I am trying to connect them.I think it would be easier to try and sort out Hannah Smith!

There was a coincidence when you wrote about relatives of David Sandford. The same day I received an email out of the blue from a descendant of Amelia and Samuel Sandford. The letter came from America and it was a copy of a letter sent in March 1927 regarding the passing of Uncle Sam ( Sandford). It was written by Clara, Aunt Mary(Sandford) youngest daughter. It goes on to say.....There is Uncle David's 3 children  (your cousins) Emily, Hannah and James Herbert. James is in the hospital suffering from cancer and might not last long in his world. It continues with an update of life in England whilst the other half of the family continue their lives in America.
How strange that you should mention about David Sandford then less than 12 hours later I should receive an email with this letter about the Sandfords-j

It is a small world sometimes!

Thank you for the information on the marriages.

As to David Sandford, I believe only three of his nine children survived long enough to marry:

Emily from his marriage to Martha Ellis; she married Dick Robinson in 1888 and had four children of whom I am aware, Fred (1891/2), Lillian (1895-1897), Cora (1899/1900) and Albert (1909/10). All living at Cliff in 1911.

James Herbert from his marriage to Sophia Cartwright; he married Annie Eliza Brook in 1897. They were living in Oldham (wrong side of the Pennines!) in 1901 and there were no children in the household. I have made a note that I couldn't find them in 1911.

Hannah from his marriage to Sophia Cartwright; she married Harry Gibson in 1901 and had five children (up to 1911); Edith Mary (1901/2), Arthur (104/5), Hilda (1907/8), Anne Amelia (1908/9) and Frank (1910). They were all living in Thongsbridge in David Sandford's household in 1911.

I have no knowledge of any Sandfords who went to the USA but I have only researched those directly related.

There are a lot of Haighs. I went to school in Honley in the 1960s and there were a lot of them then; and this when people were only having two or three children, not ten. Good luck!

There was also a Sandford in the same class.
