Trying to find Stephen Maloney, Widnes

Hi All,

I am having trouble tracking down information about my Great Grandfather, Stephen Maloney.

I have his birth certificate, (1876,  Widnes).  His father was Patrick Maloney (labourer) and his mother was Catherine Maloney, (nee Callaghan), both believed to have been born in Ireland. The family are believed to have been Roman Catholic.

I am unable to find Stephen on the census prior to 1901, by which time he had moved to South Wales (records show he married Mary Conelly in Maesteg, Glamorgan, in 1898).

Any advice about where to go from here would be greatly appreciated.

Is it your tree on ancestry? That tree has him in Widnes in 1881, but doesn't have the source citation attached. I cant see him in the census at the moment.

Stephen Maloney was my great grandfather, my grandmother Margaret was his daughter. I live in Maesteg where Stephen and his brother Patrick settled.

Can I ask how we are related?
