Hi Mary Ellen

Eureka! Your great grandmother is interred in Bent Cemetery, Hamilton. I don't know how I missed this entry.

Thomson, Margaret, age 52, date of burial 27 January 1904, Calderwood Castle

Cheers,

Rodeo

Rodeo - I cannot tell you how thrilled I am with your discovery!  It has been a frustrating search with me being so far away from Scotland.  A lot of people have tried to help, with no success.

No only have you found her, but her presence in Bent Cemetery validates the connection with the others you mentioned.  I'll have a busy time ahead filling in a lot of blanks in my Steel(e)/Barclay/Thomson branch.

Thank you so very much,  Mary Ellen

Hi Sancti

I just knew that YOU would be the one kind enough to send Mary Ellen a photo of her great grandmother's grave. You're such a treasure!

Unfortunately, however, there are no lair numbers included in the Bent Cemetery burial records I have. She'll have to contact South Lanarkshire Council. In the past, I've corresponded with Ellen Millar, who has been extremely helpful, at the following email address:

Ellen.Millar[replace with 'at' symbol]southlanarkshire.gsx.gov.uk

Many thanks, Sancti.

All the best,

Rodeo

Sadly many of the older headstones in Bent cemetery are lying face down but if Mary gets a lair location I will check it out

Hi Mary Ellen

If you contact South Lanarkshire Council to obtain the lair number of your great grandmother's grave, Sancti will very kindly send you a photo of the headstone.

It will facilitate your further genealogical research, as you say, knowing that your relations resided in Hamilton and environs. Please let me know if I can help you with further Bent Cemetery look-ups.

Cheers,

Rodeo

Rodeo and Sancti - I'm on it!  Will advise if I come up with a lair number from Lanarkshire Council.  Being the weekend it may take some time.  You are both being incredibly helpful.
Best regards, Mary Ellen

Rodeo (I'm getting greedy now!)  Since you have found Margaret Thomson and her mother Margaret Steel Barclay, would you please check your Bent Cemetery records for the latter's parents -James Steel and Margaret Clark.

I assume since you didn't mention him that William Barclay, (husband of Margaret Steel Barclay and father of Margaret, Samuel and Mary) is not listed in the Bent Cemetery records, but if there are any more Barclay's or Steel's, or Clarks for that matter, I'd like to have them also.  My tree is growing quickly.
Gratefully, Mary Ellen
