By chance, when I was there 5 years ago, I took pictures of the Cathedral and the office block that were badly damaged in the quake.

So people can see just how bad it was.

My thoughts are continually with you.

Dear Mal!

What an amazing account of your experiences! I may be the other side of the world, but I felt as if I was there by your side!

I know that you have given permission for it to be printed, but does that include it being sent to friends by email ??? I think that it is something that should be read by many people. I have copied it to my email, but will not send it without your sayso :)

Best wishes to you and all your family

Hi there!

So glad to see that everyone has now called in to say that they are safe. Good to see you Annie and Leandra!

Does anyone live anywhere near the Halswell area ??? Just wondering if there is much damage out that way, as I have a friend who lives there :(

Best wishes to you all, and do take care

Sorry, I cannot remember who asked about the ice breaking away from the glacier, but I have found this that may be of interest!

Good Morning

Just to say we had a good sleep last night, only woke to two aftershocks, both children slept through both shakes, so hopefully no grumpy children and parents.

There is threat of disease with the water, and the death toll may reach over 300!  Just a waiting game now.

Thanks for posting the photo's.  Our beloved Cathedral is in ruins, I just burst out crying when I saw it falling to the ground, it holds a lot of memories, My family owned part of the land it sits on many years ago (1860).  I remember meeting my grandmother there with my mother as a little girl, a big journey on the bus as a 3/4 year old, a special outing to met up with your Gran and going to a Cafe for lunch.  It will never be the same.

Sorry I can not give details on any other statue, I saw Scott has fallen on the News.  No one is allowed near the Four Avenues, it is just too dangerous and we must let the E.M.S do their job.

My hubby is now off to work.  His boss is a complete idiot, no one is allowed back at work unless it is for the good of others.  I do not think carpet is a great concern to people.  He has a real mess to clean up, containers are coming and a better fork lift to lift those carpet rolls.  I said to him to be careful and get out is there are any aftershocks.

I still can not get hold of my elderly Aunt (she is the last link to my mother) The phones just are not working.  She will not have water or power, but her son lives across the road from her, so I know she will be safe.

I was able to wash children last night, put the plug in the bath to save the water, maybe get some washing done with it, and then scoop it out onto the garden.  If ggg granny could do it, so can I.
