Herbert and Frances Emma WALKER - Dewsbury - circ 1867
« on: Friday 04 March 11 23:30 GMT (UK) »
I am seeking information from anyone with Family or personal knowledge of the Family of Herbert and Frances Emma WALKER who resided in Dewsbury.   According to the 1901 Census Herbert was a Publican residing at 18 Victoria Crescent, Dewsbury Moor.   Other members of the family included :-

Frances Emma WALKER (nee EASTWOOD) born Halifax abt 1863
Doris                      "       born Dewsbury abt 1885
         James E                  "         "           "           "   1867
         Edward E               "          "           "           "   1869
         Fred                       "          "           "           "    1872
         Ruth M                   "          "           "           "    1874

Herbert was born in Dewsbury abt 1861 and died 1906, also in Dewsbury.

I am particularly interested in information on James E, regarding his second Christian Name and why I cannot find him on the 1911 UK Census.

Thanking you in anticipation.

I haven't looked at the 1901 for them, but these dates can't be right, can they? Are they each 20 years later?

For legal reasons we cannot do 1911 census lookups.  However, a free index search suggests there may be a suitable James E Walker in the Weymouth area in some sort of military context (perhaps naval?). He might be worth a look.

Many thanks to the very kind persons who have responded to my query, suzard and avm228 in particular.

To Suzard :   To my knowledge James was never in the Royal Marines.   During World Wars 1 and 2 he was in the British and Australian Merchant Navies.   The 1901 UK Census that you have shown is the correct one.

To Avm 228:   Thank you for prompting me to correct the years of birth.    They should, of course, read :-
                           Doris         1885
                           James E    1887
                           Edward E  1889
                           Fred          1892
                           Ruth          1894.

Thanks for the info from FreeBMD.   I notice that there was also a James Edward born at Dewsbury about the same time.   'Drat it'.   Thanks also for the info about the 1911 UK Census.   I'll have a good look at that one

    Regards, Jim, in Australia

Not all Births are in the GRO and need to contact Dewsbury Register office

Though it not certain! Its strange if Edward E Walker in the 1901 census who was Edward Eastwood Walker b 1889 and his elder brother James E was not also James Eastwood Walker

Marriages Mar 1885

Eastwood  Frances Emma    Dewsbury  9b 636

Walker  Herbert     Dewsbury  9b 636

Births Mar 1889

Walker  Edward Eastwood    Dewsbury  9b 643
In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

Thank you for that information 'dobfarm'.   I can understand your reasoning regarding the second Christian Name.   I just took it for granted that the FreeBMD List was complete.   I'll follow your suggestion now and try to contact the Dewsbury Register Office.
