Irish Circuses
« on: Friday 04 March 11 16:14 GMT (UK) »
I'm a newbie here and am tracing the family. I am looking for information and links on travelling circuses in Ireland from about 1900 onwards. My grandfather and family went to Ireland c.1911- 1914 and linked up initially with Heckenbergs which then became part of Fossetts. Wonder if anyone has any particular interest in these areas and could offer some tips. Also looking for background information on the areas of Matehy, Coolaflugh, and Freemount all in County Cork. These areas show some of my other relatives in the 1901 and 1911 Irish censuses and I am trying to establish whether they were house based or travelling in caravans.

Many thanks

Frank

The building returns (Form B1) on the census will give details of the type of buildings the families lived in
