Thanks for that information Judith.

I wonder what HOME DUTIES means.

I am not sure what years the census is done in Australia.  In England it is done every ten years.

Kind regards,
Michael
Home Duties means she was a housewife / lady who stayed home and didn't go to work.

Census is done about every 10 years in Australia but until the last time, no information except statistics was kept.  In 2100 people will be able to get some information about us, from the census  ::)
The only one which was kept was an 1828 'muster'.  There are a few odd bits of other census, I believe, but they are very hard to track down.

Hi

Australian censuses are held every 5 years. Prior to 2001 the returns were destroyed after information was extracted. Both the 2001 and 2006 census had a question about the archiving of personal data for release 99 years after the census date. In 2001 about 54% said yes to the archiving of personal information and their forms were filmed to be released in 2100, the remaining 46% were not filmed. I believe that in 2006 the percentage of people who said yes increased slightly.

There are some NSW State censuses, 1841 1891 and 1901, but I believe only the head of household is named. As far as Im aware the 1891 and 1901 censuses are not online.

Thanks for that, Andy
Must admit I was only going from memory  :P
Do we really have them every 5 years?  Fancy that!  Must be the old psych thing where we don't remember unpleasant things so well.   ;D   ;D

Thanks Dawn, Andy and Anne for the extra information.

I wasn't sure what 'home duties' meant (thought it might have been a domestic servant), so that has cleared that up.

I will try the historical society Anne and see if that gives me any fresh information.

Sorry, that I haven't replied to your posts earlier - I haven't been on Roots Chat for a while...

Thanks again for your help,
Michael
