CHARMAN in Sussex

Hi Listers,
I have re-visited my wifes side of the tree, and found many CHARMAN's linked to CHATFIELD and HEATHER in West Sussex. On the 1871 Census for Pulborough where I was looking f(and found) Frances CHATFIELD, there is listed a Clement CHARMAN born Billingshurst, Wife Phebe (or Phoebe) Son William, Clement and Step Daughter Naomi HARD. all born Pulborough or Billingshurst.
I am wondering if anyone has these CHARMAN's in their tree, as I do not, although all our CHARMAN ancestors are from Bignor, Sutton and Selham areas, not too far away from Pulborough and Billingshurst. Seems strange that they are living next door to our CHATFEILD ancestors.

I have some Charmans in my tree.  They are the offspring of Charles Evans and Lilian Charman born Brighton 1884.  Some of the children have the surname Charman rather than Evans and some were born in Pulborough:

Alice Beatrice Charman 1904 Worthing, Sussex
George Henry Charman 1906 Capel, Surrey
Charles William Charman 1908 Pulborough, Sussex

Charles Evans and Lilian Charman marry in 1909 in Pulborough.

Ethel Lilian Evans 1910 Pulborough, Sussex
Ivy Primrose Evans 1912 Pulborough, Sussex
Daidy Elsie Evans 1915 Falmer, Sussex
Gilbert Arthur Evans 1917 Sompting, Sussex
Gladys Josephine Evans 1920 Sompting, Sussex

The assumption is that the father of the first 3 children was Charles Evans.

After Charles Evans died in 1926 in Sompting, Lilian remarried to George Searle in 1930 in Sompting.

Lilian died in 1950 in Sompting.

Lilian was born out of wedlock. Her mother Agnes Charman married Frederick Weller March quarter of 1885 in Dorking Surrey (vol 2a page 177)

1901 Census: Newdigate, Surrey | Lilian Charman | Step daur | 17 | Gen Serv Dom | Sussex, Brighton.
Had 3 illegitimate children:-
Alice Beatrice Charman - 1904
George Charman - 1906
Charles William Charman b. 6 May, 1908 Thakeham 2b 327 called himself Evans when he witnessed his sister Daisy's marriage in 1940.
Marriages Dec 1909   CHARMAN  Lilian    Thakeham  2b 690

Charles Evans had previously been married to Ellen Denyer who died in 1904.

I have a Frances Eliza Chatfield in my tree she was born abt 1852 in Pulborough and married John Evans in 1874.
The previous post gave you some info on the Charman Family - I have a large amount of info on them as Alice Beatrice Charman was my Grandmother.
