William Brennan retired Head Constable R I C
« on: Thursday 03 March 11 12:44 GMT (UK) »
Good Afternoon,
The above is my relative who died 30th October 1942. He lived in Newington Avenue Belfast and in Carnlough.
William had a son William Austin Brennan but that is as much as we know!
We would love to find out where William's final resting place is located and if he had more family in addition to his son William Austin Brennan.
Any help appreciated.

Many thanks for prompt reply.
This is the same man alright. He spent his service in Belfast and retired in 1922.
Would it it possible for us to get a copy of the death cert or the will?
Would love to know where  he is laid to rest and if he had more family in addition to William Austin.
Thanks again

On  the census form William and Mary's state they are married about one year and there's a possible cross-match on the BMD index (based on Honora being Mary's sister  ) :

 Name: Mary Conboy
 Registration district: Belfast
 Event type: Marriage
 Quarter and year: Oct-Dec 1909
 Volume : 1 / Page : 525

 Name: William Brennan
 [same index references as Mary]

There's also a possible match for the birth of son William A. :

 Name: William Austin Brennan
 Registration district: Belfast
 Event type: Birth
 Quarter and year: Oct-Dec 1915
 Volume : 1 / Page : 229

Brennan is quite a common surname, but at least with the parents full names you will be able to check certs of possible siblings of William. The names of William and Mary's fathers on the marriage cert (if it's the correct one), may be clues to the names of any other sons they had.

Thanks Shane,

We assumed that William Austin was a son because best man at the wedding was Austin Conboy who was Mary's brother.

Is there any way we can find siblings?

Thanks again

It's not easy to find siblings for that time as William and any siblings he had were born after the census. There may be some family details mentioned in a newspaper death notice, if there is one, or a will might mention some details.

Finding certs for siblings with such a common surname is just a gamble - there's no way to know who the parents are until you get the cert. If you can work out which church they attended you could try to find out about any records they hold. More recent parish records like these are probably still with the church and are unlikely to be available online.

The actual BMD Index books as held by the GRO include the mother maiden name on birth index details from I think about 1904, which can help narrow down the possible matches for siblings. The online index on familysearch only includes this details from the late 1920s , and only includes index records for Northern Ireland up to the end of 1921.

Thanks to both posters.
We know that William Austin became a doctor but the trail ends with his father's death in 1942. His mother died in 1939.
Looking at the time slot, he could have been a medic in the army?
Anyway thanks again for the good work.
