Thank you so much for responding to my request.
We have some "stray" Killicks in the Channel Islands, beginning with a Samuel who married Louisa Masters on 29 Oct 1839 in St Helier.  She was born 1819 in St Peter Port, Guernsey.  They had children, but by the 1851 census Louisa had remarried and I assume Samuel was dead.
The problem is really with the origins of Samuel Killick.  One researcher has a note that he was born in Hove, Sussex, but cannot remember where he got the information.   I can find no sign of S. in that county, nor anywhere really!   And why did he go to Jersey in the first place?

Sorry I wasn't much help. Did the marriage of Samuel and Louisa not give you any clues re age/father?
Also just in case you didn't see - there was an Ann KILLICK named as Godmother to Samuel and Louisa's daughters.  Just a guess (dangerous I know) but perhaps she was a sister of Samuels???
It would tend to suggest that she was also living on Jersey - but then again could have been visiting?


Cannot find any of them in the 1841 Census - trying all the tricks I know and two separate transcripts.  Perhaps they avoided the enumerator?  Not that the 1841 census would tell you much!  Guess Samuel's death cert would be the only avenue for more information - presuming, he died between 1847 and 1850.

Maybe it might be worth checking out if there was a marriage for an Ann(e) KILLICK in St Helier.  This may give you a clue as to her father.

Though it probably isn't any help - Samuel was named Godfather to dau of John KILMINSTER and Emma MASTERS in October 1847 - so he was still alive..... and both Samuel and Louisa were named as Godparents to a son of William SMITH and Maria MASTERS in 1844 - presume the mothers may have been sisters of Louisa???  So it narrows down the time that Samuel was around!

Thanks for the information.  There is a stray birth in St Helier of a Ruby Elizabeth, dau of William Richard Killick, born 28 Aug 1881, and baptised 18 Sep; but I couldn't make any progress with him either.   William & Richards abound among the Killicks from the 15th century to the present day, but Samuel is definitely different and I hoped to track him quite easily - no such luck!   
Why would someone go to Jersey?   In the Army perhaps, or to farm, or even a smuggler or coastguard?   Apart from a few who wished to marry - e.g. a widower to marry his dead wife's sister, or first cousin which was frowned on in their parish.   I will look into the island's history around 1815 for clues.

             Someone has kindly looked up Samuel's Marriage in Jersey for me. and it says that Samuel was born in p. of Hove, Kent. I am wondering if the Hove is actually Stone in Kent. (thanks to an idea from another Rootschater). Do you have any information on this Samuel born @1814 in Stone near Dartford. Was he still there in 1839, Or is there a death/Burial or Children?

I feel a trip to the Library, Very slight chink in the Wall.
