hi there noticed your post about William Cain i am related to his wife mary jane however i have hit walls also as to where in ireland the Cullen family came from any pointers also do you have this information

More About William Cain:
Occupation 1: 1853, Slater
Occupation 2: Bet. 1855 - 1868, Coalminer
Residence 1: 1861, 157 Kirkrood, Wishaw, Lanark, Scotland
Residence 2: 1871, 4 Brown St, Cambusnethan, Wishaw, Lanark, Scotland
More About William Cain and Mary jane Cullen:
Marriage: 28 Oct 1853, Hamilton, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

Children of Mary Cullen and William Cain are:
   6   i.   Rose Anne Cain14,15, born Abt. 1854.
7   ii.   John Kean, born 21 Sep 1855 in Cambusnethan Kirk, Wishaw, Lanark, Scotland.
8   iii.   Sarah Cain16, born 24 Dec 1856 in Cambusnethan Kirk, Wishaw, Lanark, Scotland17.
9   iv.   William Cain, born 20 Mar 1859 in Cambusnethan Kirk, Wishaw, Lanark, Scotland.

Notes for William Cain:

William may have died young as he is not on the census of 1871 or 1881.

10   v.   Mary Jane Cain, born 19 Mar 1861 in 157 Kirkrood, Cambusnethan, Wishaw, Lanark, Scotland.
11   vi.   James Cain, born 23 Jul 1863 in 10 Pather St, Cambusnethan, Wishaw, Lanark, Scotland.

Notes for James Cain:

Jame's birth was registered by his father William but it appears that the registrar has misquoted his mother's maiden name as "Connly" instead of Cullen. He may have had difficulty with the "Irish" accent.

However, the fact that he was born at the same address as his cousin Rose Ann, daughter of his mother's sister Rose Ann Cullen, this is enough to convince me that he is indeed the biological son of both William & Mary Jane.

12   vii.   Ellen Cain18, born Abt. 1867 in Cambusnethan, Wishaw, Lanark, Scotland19.
13   viii.   Peter Cain20, born 25 Oct 1868 in 4 Brown St, Cambusnethan, Wishaw, Lanark, Scotland21.
14   ix.   Agnes Cain22, born 11 Mar 1871 in 4 Brown St, Cambusnethan, Wishaw, Lanark, Scotland23.
i also have information on some of thr burials and where they are

Hi!

I will forward this to one of my cousins= Nicola.  She knows more information than I do.

Thank you for sending me this.... I'm sure if Nicola has anything else, she will also share with you.

Dear Kevin

Sorry for such a long delay in replying, life took over family history!!  I'm afraid I don't have any further information for you on the Cullen side in Ireland.  I wasn't aware of Peter's wife name until I got your information via my cousin.  Thank you for the information you found on the Cain side.  If I do come across anything on the Cullen side I will let you know.

Hello, I am trying to trace a William (Jane) Cain B 1823 ish in Auchenloo, Derry.  I know from his death cert that his parents were John Cain (Fruit dealer) and Sarah McLaughlin.  He first appears on the 1861 Scottish census, but I know nothing about his time / family in Ireland.

Could someone please point me in the right direction as to where I might find out some more info?  I've tried familysearch but not yet got anything back (if I have done it correctly!!).  Many thanks

Hi Bluebell,

Just came across your post. I am descended from William's wife Mary Jane Cullen's sister Rose Ann. I tried to find the name (Auchenlee) from son John's BC with no joy. I eventually found a coalmine named Auchenlee Colliery in Lanark as he was a coalminer so now I'm confused as to whether the name was where he worked or where he was from but I will go with the Auchenloo,  Auchan Loo, Aghanloo, Analoo.

I'm wondering if you have any facts we can share as things will have progressed with us both since this post.

Regards,

Anne Marie.

Hi Anne Marie

Thank you for replying to this thread.  I have to confess that I've not been able to do much since I posted this info.  I have tried looking up on LDS and got some info from it but due to the many spellings I've not yet sat down and tried to piece it together.  I have Auchenloo as the place name.  Whereabouts in Lanark was the coalmine as William's descendants were also coalminers in Wishaw and surrounding area.

Kind regards

Nichola

To be honest it must have only said Lanarkshire otherwise I would have written it down & I would have googled it with every spelling it looked to be so I would try just googling Auchenlee Colliery but I think now it is the birthplace. Do you have John's 1855 birth cert? I could email you it if not. If you would like it, just PM your email address. It's on my other comp but will copy it over tomorrow as I have other stuff to email to a link I found with my Rose Ann's line (Mary Jane's sister)

Which one's do you have (B Certs)? Also, What is your direct line from Mary Jane? My direct line from Rose Ann is her daughter Rose Ann too. Did Kevin give you that line as I sent it to him?
