Does anyone know if there was a detention centr for prisoners near South Shields during the first World War?

Yes there was a detention camp at Frenchmans Point (Bay) in South Shields, dating from 1900 to about 1952.

Here is a topic about the camp, from the South Shields Sanddancers Site, I myself remember the camp.

Thanks so much for your prompt reply.
I was asked about it by a Norwegian 3rd cousin of mine who remembers his grandmother who lived in South Shields visiting a German relative there.

My next question is ,does anyone know where to find out about records from this camp?

Thanks
