Therefore it is possible he married in Cork between leaving Virago in 1865 and going back to England in 1866. How did you know he started in Union Hall?

I constructed his CG Service from the ADM 175 records. These can be downloaded from the NA website for free, but be warned they are very large files.

On the question of Union Hall, this was in ADM 175/20 (pdf 114), CG Establishment Book.

From his record I see that he was back on board Achilles as a stoker from 3/5/1878 to 19/8/1878 which was when she was in the Dardanelles during the Russo Turkish war scare.
