Brentford Cemetery 1835 burial
« on: Tuesday 01 March 11 02:37 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for the burial of Thomas Homan of Ealing who I understand was buried at Brentford Cemetery in 1835.  However, I saw a message on this site that said Brentford C. started in the 1860s.  Can anyone advise if there are graves there of this vintage and if so, how I can find the details of this burial?

Thanks

Margot

You could contact the Brentford Cemetery and ask if they know what went on in the area prior to their beginnings.

My thought would be that at the date you are looking at it would have been a burial in a churchyard.  Very few if any "public" cemeteries at this time, especially out of London as Brentford would not have been in London and would have been quite rural at this time.  Probably just a large village or small market town.

You could also try any Local History Groups or Brentford Council to see if they have any archives.  Google for both.

Hi Margot

I think he may be buried at St Georges Churchyard, Old Brentford (aged 56 April 9th)

Thank you Dawn and Plummiegirl for your informative replies about a possible burial for Thomas Homan.
Dawn re the St Georges Church yard at Brentford, did you find a reference to the burial somewhere?  Thanks

Margot

Hi Margot

The parish registers deposited at the London Metropolitan Archives have been digitised and transcribed and are available on subscription through Ancestry.

Thomas is there but his surname has been mis-transcribed.

Dawn

Sorry to trouble you again but could you tell me what the surname was in the Ancestry transcription record that you saw, please?

Thanks

Hi Dawn

Thanks very much for all your assistance with this.  I am fairly sure it is the right person as I saw  a short will online from him where probate was granted in May 1835.

regards

Margot
